Amy Chang's article on Introvert-friendly careers  lists graphic design second after accounting. Her reasoning seems plausible, even though she cites no evidence.

This does not mean that extroverts have no place in the design world – in fact designers who are comfortable with social interaction may be at an advantage.

In new military, data overload can be deadly

Journalism in the age of data

I had more luck with the non-Flash version of this movie, which is almost an hour long.
Includes graphic designer Nigel Holmes (who created Vampire Energy) on the evolution of the field as sound, motion,  interactivity, and massive amounts of data become more easily available.

Again and again leading professionals emphasize the importance of human context through storytelling to make data meaningful.

New York Times graphics editor Amanda Cox; designers from Stamen Design; folks from Google, IBM Research, Microsoft, Conde Nast, MSNBC, and BBC News Online talk about what can be done today with so much information coming in, sometimes updating live, from things like government crime reports and  Tweets. Designer Nicholas Feltron shares his data-rich annual report about his own life.

In the last segment, the movie discusses technology being used by designers and journalists to create graphics. Flash, HTML5, Flare, Protovis, Many Eyes, and Google Charts allow you to create complex interactive charts.

The movie concludes with descriptions of who will be qualified to work in this new field of data journalism.
The Feltron Annual Reports

Nickolas Feltron is an influential American designer obsessed with lifelogging. Daily activities such as cups of coffee consumed, cities visited and emails sent are recorded, processed and presented in sleek graphs, maps and charts. The results are beautifully designed sets of infographics bound together into booklets, each summarising a year of Feltron’s life.
